PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Playground Wood Chips are derived from clean soft wood and are screened to 1/2" minus*. Playground Wood Chips meet or exceed the requirements of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's technical guidelines for playground surfacing, as determined by the ASTM Standard F1292-96. Playground Wood Chips are also handicap accessible and meet the maneuverability performance requirements, as determined by ASTM Standard F1951-99. A clean tan color, Playground Wood Chips are an economical alternative to more costly decorative barks. PRODUCT USES: Playground Wood Chips are recommended for use as a ground cover or for pathways and can also be used in play areas. When used under shrubs and trees, Playground Wood Chips help to conserve water, lower soil temperature, and reduce weed growth. PRODUCT APPLICATION: Recommended application for Playground Wood Chips used as groundcover is 2" to 4" deep. When used in a play area, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends installation at a depth of 1" per each potential 1 foot of fall. This measurement is equal to the height of the tallest piece of playground equipment added to the height of the tallest child (i.e., a 7' high slide plus a 4' tall child would require a minimum depth of 11" of Playground Wood Chips) If a swing set is part of the playground equipment, 12" of Playground Wood Chips are required. Note: As a matter of safety, it is important to maintain the recommended depth in all areas, particularly in high traffic areas where material will be kicked aside and can become thin.
